COMPARATIVE TYPOLOGICAL STUDY OF ENGLISH AND UZBEK ANTHROPONYMS

Abstract

Anthroponymy, which studies the origins, meanings, and structures of personal names, is one of the most informative areas of linguistics because names reflect the cultural and historical experience of entire communities. Personal names are more than simple labels; they are cultural signs that reveal how societies understand family relations, gender roles, religion, values, and social hierarchy (Crystal, 2003). In many cultures, names are chosen with great care because they symbolize hopes, blessings, or identity. For example, some cultures choose names that express moral qualities (Faith, Hope, Charity), others choose symbolic meanings (Oydin, “moonlight”), while others choose names from religious texts.
