Abstract

This article explores the effectiveness of digital flashcards compared to traditional paper flashcards for vocabulary acquisition in language learners. Through a quantitative study involving a six-week intervention, participants were assigned to either digital or paper flashcards and evaluated on vocabulary retention and acquisition. The study found that digital flashcards significantly improved vocabulary retention, thanks to features like multimedia integration, customizable repetition schedules, and immediate feedback. Qualitative feedback indicated that digital flashcards were more engaging and motivating. The findings suggest that digital flashcards are a valuable tool for enhancing vocabulary learning, providing insights for educators and learners on incorporating technology to improve language proficiency. Further research is recommended to understand the specific mechanisms driving these improvements.
