IRRIGATION WATER USE OF COTTON AND RICE: AQUACROP SIMULATION RESULTS FOR COTTON IN FERGANA REGION AND EXPECTED RESULTS OF DRIP IRRIGATION FOR RICE IN SYRDARYA REGION
Abstract
Abstract. Cotton and rice are irrigated crops with very different water demand. This paper presents two parts of one research line. For cotton in Fergana Region, an irrigation schedule was developed with the FAO AquaCrop model: four irrigations totalling 330 mm gave a simulated seed cotton yield of 5.263 t/ha. For rice in Syrdarya Region, a field experiment is planned to compare conventional flooding with drip irrigation on the varieties Iskandar and Guliston, and the expected results are given on the basis of published studies. The comparison shows the scale of the water demand of rice and the potential of drip irrigation to reduce it. The cotton results are model outputs, and the rice results are expectations, not measurements.
