THE ROLE OF TOURISM IN ECONOMIC GROWTH: EVIDENCE FROM UZBEKISTAN
Abstract
This study examines the contribution of tourism to economic growth in Uzbekistan, focusing on international tourist arrivals, tourism revenues, employment, and regional development. Using descriptive and comparative analysis of official statistical data, the research identifies significant growth in the tourism sector. International tourist trips increased from 6.75 million in 2019 to 11.68 million in 2025, while tourism service exports reached USD 3.52 billion in 2024. Tourism contributed an estimated 4.7% to GDP and 5.9% to employment in 2024. The findings highlight tourism's economic importance and emphasize the need for improved infrastructure, service quality, and sustainable tourism development.
